IRON LUNG- SEXLESS/NO SEX

Disclaimer: If you do not like loud, angry, dissonant, and punishing music then it's very likely you won't like this.

Now, first things first... HOLY SHIT! I slept on this band for so long and I have no idea why. I listened to this album on the way home last night and it is so perfect. Not perfect in a broader sense of music, just perfect for what it is. The music made by this two piece is so perfectly untainted by any aspirations of success, popularity, notoriety, or any other desire that can often compromise the important aspects of good extreme music. I really got a sense that these guys are only doing this for themselves. This is pure modern powerviolence with such a perfect dose of harsh-noise and slower-parts to break up the wall of fury. PERFECT! PERFECT! PERFECT!

The songs totally bleed into each other but it's in such a perfect way that it feels like one continuous piece of music. The riffs are so atonal and percussive that none of the songs have an identifiable key or even a melody and alternately, could all be in some magical, imperceptible key that normal humans can't actually hear. The playing is flawless, the vocals are perfectly angry and they never veer too far into metal territory. This is exactly what modern powerviolence bands need to look to. No more angry frat boys taking off their shirts and playing grindcore with more tempo changes and calling it powerviolence. THIS IS POWERVIOLENCE!!! All hail the Iron Lung!!!

NO COMMENT- DOWNSIDED

Just some raging powerviolence. fast, slow, heavy, harsh... definitely one of the genre's best records, of which there are many. Sorry for the lack of posts and the lack of depth in the posts. Life still sucks... just now it sucks worse than the last few times I used that as an excuse for a lack of posts.

OLD POSTS

I've been lazy and since I don't upload any of these albums myself, most of them seem to have been taken down from mediafire. I was just going to discreetly re-up all of them... but the number kept getting bigger and I don't want to sit at my computer all day. So I'm just going to leave this here and let people comment if they want something re-upped that has been taken down.

p.s. google it first! someone else probably uploaded it!

INFEST

Infest are one of my favourite bands and even before I really knew much about them or had heard more than one song, there was this mysterious pull they had. The ultra-gritty xeroxed covers, the howling singer who sounded like John Brannon with the rage-knob on eleven and the fact that a punk band was willing to play such agonizingly slow breakdowns. Once I heard Slave, I knew I'd finally found the hardcore band I had been fantasizing about! Of course this band is insanely popular and I'm sure for most punk fans it's hard to hear something like this and see it as any different from the countless other bands that played this way... but that's beside the point!

Infest did this first. Siege? Sure, they were playing this fast in 84' but not with this precision, intensity or conviction. As far as I'm concerned, Infest were the final death rattle of american hardcore. After them there is nothing truly innovative or genre defining (maybe Feel the Darkness). There are countless great hardcore bands from the 90's and beyond but game-changing, they are not. This is where hardcore terminated. Infest killed it and they did so in the most glorious way possible. I hope I haven't set the bar too high but if you've never experienced Infest, you must do so ASAP. I've included links to my favourites of their catalog.

p.s. Don't talk to me about Fucked Up because I don't care

NIGHTSTICK JUSTICE- CLAUSTROPHOBIC

This is a hardcore record. Describing it beyond the fact that it is pissed off, catchy, loud and well recorded is pointless, as I'm sure this is on a thousand blogs already but maybe you haven't been to those blogs. If you like Infest or Youth of Today then you should like this... I guess...

LOW THREAT PROFILE- S/T 7"

Powerviolence rules, ok? ok, now that we're clear on that, on to this hot little item. Featuring former members of Infest(!) No Comment(!) and Lack of Interest(!) So, if those names mean nothing to you then I would check out all those bands. Why? because they rip and dip like few can. If you're familiar with those acts then you are already salivating and thinking that this is too good to be true. Honestly, I think it's a fucking great record that adds a little bit of spit-shine in the production department that powerviolence usually lacks, which puts it on par with some of my favourite Infest recordings.

APARTMENT 213- VACANCY

Of all punk's bastard-children, I think I love powerviolence the most. Particularly the heap of great records the genre produced in the early 90's. I dunno what it is. Its too extreme to be called hardcore yet not metallic enough to be called grind. It exists in some bizarre, perma-fried nexus between punk and metal. Really, doesn't that sound like the perfect music?

Since countless blogs have posted material from Infest, Man Is The Bastard, and Spazz I thought I'd share a slightly lesser-known gem from Cleveland's Apartment 213. Not much information on these guys aside from the Dahmer reference... not exactly music for when you're stoked on life. Get psyched on hate!
